Customer Development Manager (Sales & Marketing)



Job Description


Basic Function
Management of all Customer Development Department strategies and programs for the three (3) subsidiaries: Astec Mobile Screens (AMS), Johnson Crushers International (JCI) and Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc. (KPI) products and services, which are marketed through a multi-level channel network. 
 
Responsible for working with AMS, JCI and KPI subsidiary sales & marketing personnel to successfully develop and execute customer development strategies and programs.  The position will be responsible for working with all functional groups within each subsidiary, as required to promote current products and services.  This includes successful interaction with other personnel by leading our customer awareness, both internal and external, in advertising, promotional, events, training and other customer driven programs to help grow products and services for the respective subsidiary businesses.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Direct, coordinate, manage and/or lead, under direction of the Vice President, Sales & Marketing all strategies and programs that support subsidiaries products and services in:
    1. Strategic Communications
    2. Advertising
    3. Event Planning
    4. Product Promotion & Rollout
    5. Public Relations
    6. Creative & Graphic Services
    7. Multi-Media Development
    8. Sales & Marketing Tools
    9. Customer Research, Needs & Analysis
    10. Customer Training
    11. Customer Retention
    12. Customer Relationship Management – Lead Tracking
Other Responsibilities:
  1. Create a customer awareness of AMS, JCI and KPI subsidiary products and services resulting in leads for the sales team using the following tactics:
    1. Ad campaigns
    2. Case Studies
    3. Literature
    4. Internal & External Magazines
    5. Multimedia
    6. Social Media
    7. Sales lead tracking
    8. Dealer communication tools (inventory, leads, communication)
    9. Trade shows (convey the message of our subsidiaries, and the Astec Industries family).
    10. Trade press (advertisements, press releases, case studies, technical articles).
    11. Website
    12. Direct mail
    13. Dealer co-op programs
 
  1. Assist the AMS, JCI and KPI sales management with training of the subsidiary and dealer/agent sales teams, as well as other customers by developing:
    1. Training schools for subsidiaries’ personnel to become effective spokespeople for our products and services
    2. Technical workshops and other customer schools for those who utilize our products and services
    3. Completion of technical papers for industry knowledge and awareness
    4. Completion of sales & marketing tools to better understand each subsidiary’s products and services, industries served and competitive marketplace
 
  1. Participate in trade organizations as a spokesperson for subsidiaries, opening doors for our technical personnel to present/speak at regional, national and global seminars, as required.
 
  1. Develop a better understanding of the customer marketplace, including:
    1. Developing a database of known end-users of equipment from each respective subsidiary.
    2. List of potential customers by market and/or industry segment.
 
  1. Work with sister Astec Industries companies to:
    1. Share best practices for customer awareness to ensure favorable press exposure and maximum paid ad space with minimum costs (frequency rates).
    2. Assist in developing the smaller companies exposure to marketing, trade press and industry associations.
Essential Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business and/or Marketing, or five plus years of equivalent promotional experience in the aggregate, recycling or construction industries.
  2. Advertising, promotional, event planning, graphic and design experience required.
  3. Adaptable to using different types of computer equipment and software used in marketing efforts, i.e. Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent software.  Also, able to operate general office equipment including phone, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, etc.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel required.
  4. Personnel management experience preferable.
  5. Ability to work well with others and demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, operators, and customers.
  7. Good reasoning abilities and negotiation skills.
  8. Well-organized.
  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Candidate must be able to multi-task and adjust accordingly to changes in projects and/or priorities.
  11. Strong team builder with strategic and promotional talent.
  12. If not based at one of the subsidiary’s facilities, must be willing to relocate.  KPI facility preferable.
  13. Willing to travel by air and auto.
  14. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  15. Must be able to obtain a passport if necessary.
  16. Must be able to obtain a credit card in order to travel. Approved expenses will be reimbursed.
  17. Required to carry $100,000/$300,000 liability insurance coverage on any personal vehicle used for company business.
  18. Required to visit construction, quarry, and industrial sites with exposure to dust, noise, and weather elements, occasional climbing required, etc.
