SPARK, a newly formed coalition of representatives from a variety of human service organizations, is hosts monthly Community Conversations!
The goal of SPARK is to connect community leaders and volunteers, while gaining knowledge and understanding of community needs. Members meet on the first Friday of each month, at the Avera Professional Office Pavilion, to share information and look for opportunities to improve the community through collaboration.
SPARK’s community conversations have rotated important community topics, such as hunger, housing, child care and health. SPARK will also host quarterly community service and educational opportunities for volunteers and programs.

| Nov 14 Pre Legislative Breakfast |
The Governmental Affairs Committee of the Yankton Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Pre-Legislative Breakfast on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
David Owen, President of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry, will be the featured speaker at the breakfast. David will provide thoughts on the 2018 election, ballot results and will discuss potential legislative items and issues that may be considered during the 2019 session of the South Dakota Legislature.
This Pre-Legislative Breakfast will be held at Mount Marty College in the south dining room from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. The breakfast is open to the public, registration is required. The event is $15 and includes breakfast (egg bake, hashbrowns, fruit, juice, coffee).
The 94th South Dakota legislative session begins Tuesday, January 8.

| Nov 22 - Dec 24 SHOE SENSATION CELEBRATES #GIVINGTUESDAY |
NOVEMBER 27, 2018-Shoe Sensation participated in the global day of giving called #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday started on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This movement is to support local charitable organizations during the holiday season.
Shoe Sensation is supporting #GivingTuesday by hosting its 3rd annual “Socks For Troops” companywide. Each store will be collecting socks for active duty military or local veterans in our local communities until December 24th. Shoe Sensation has military approved socks in store and customers will be able to receive 20% off the socks donated. Customers will so be able to bring in new socks to be donated.
Shoe Sensation has coordinated with veteran’s groups to distribute the items to local veterans in need as well as shipping socks and other items to soldiers stationed overseas in remote areas. While the military does provide clothing including socks, extra socks are one of the top requests of U.S. personnel overseas and the Socks for Troops program was developed to help fill this need.
