Thursday evenings & summer Saturday mornings are going to change for another year in Yankton, thanks to the continued preparations from the downtown community. With a few new ideas, the outdoor farmers’ market located in The Meridian District downtown will see expansion for its second season.
"Our vision is to make downtown’s Meridian District sparkle with a variety of local foods from our farmers and gardeners, fine art and crafts, music, paired with our retail shops – has all the right ingredients for a great time in downtown," says Cathy Clatworthy, who spearheaded the volunteer organization last year called Market at the Meridian.
Clatworthy said the goals are to provide opportunities for local growers and artists, and to provide a social gathering for the community. "We think our greater Yankton area of southeast South Dakota and northeast Nebraska have everything it takes to host one of the Midwest's great markets," she says. "If everyone works together this will be a true community-builder for our entire area."
Clatworthy said she is working with Mollie Grey, downtown’s Development Coordinator to expand the market and recruit more vendors for the 2017 season. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor should contact Mollie, 104 W. Third St., in downtown Yankton or sign up on the market’s website www.MarketAtTheMeridian.com
. The registration fee for the entire summer is only $50. Vendors can pick Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings or both. More details will be available soon on the new Meridian District’s website to be launched April 3rd.
Anyone else who wishes to volunteer to help with the market should also contact Mollie Grey at email@example.com
"Yankton deserves the very best market. No city has a more scenic site for a market and I know we have the growers and the talent to make this work," she says. "It just takes all of us working together to create a Meridian Farmers’ Market for Yankton and make our downtown sparkle."
